Indoor plants can add a calming atmosphere to your home, in addition to brightening up the room and shelves. House plants can be used for more than just decorative purposes though, with some scientists suggesting that choosing the right plants can purify and detoxify the air in your home.

If you consider yourself a beginner when it comes to indoor plants, there’s good news: the best house plants are actually very easy to care for. In this blog post, we take you through some of the best indoor plants that you should think about introducing into your space.

Aloe Vera

Historically known for producing a gel that aids burns and cuts, aloe vera has since become a fan favourite in peoples homes, due to being both stylish and practical. Aloe vera is known to help purify the air of formaldehyde and benzene which are two household chemicals found in common cleaning products and some paints. Additionally, aloe vera releases oxygen at night, making it a great choice for bedrooms and chill-out areas. This type of plant is very easy to maintain, due to being a succulent plant which means it stores water in its leaves. Therefore, they don’t require a lot of watering, especially during the winter months. They are also very slow growing, so repotting is only required every two or three years.

Sansevieria

Commonly known as the Snake Plant or Mother-in-Law’s Tongue, snake plants generally have wide leaves that grow straight up and taper to a spike at the top, featuring a stunning yellow tip. If you’re looking for a low-maintenance plant, look no further! This plant is one of the easiest plants to care for as it thrives off neglect. They respond best to the lightest of watering, being placed in bright indirect light, and then just being left alone. That’s why they’re known for being (almost) unkillable, making them a great first plant, or if you enjoy some green company around your hectic schedule. It’s important to add that if you have young children or pets, the snake plant can be mildly toxic if consumed.

The Gardenia

While a little more high-maintenance than the other plants in this blog, the gardenia is most definitely worth the extra tlc. It’s best situated in bright, indirect sunlight and needs watering just once a week. Gardenias are loved for their fragrance and stunning white flowers which contrast with its dark green leaves. They are a favoured choice for bedrooms, with some studies showing that Gardenia can reduce anxiety and help achieve a better night’s sleep.
