As the leading Estate and Letting Agents in Northamptonshire, we believe it’s a fantastic area to visit and live. Northamptonshire holds an abundance of attractions which will keep you and your family occupied for a lifetime.
From vast stately homes to stunning woodlands, there truly is something for everyone in our beautiful little corner of the country. In this blog post, we take you through some of Northamptonshire’s hidden treasures.
Delapré Abbey
Situated just one mile from the town centre of Northampton, Delapré Abbey is a grade II listed stately home which holds 900 years of rich history in the heart of Northamptonshire. It was recently restored with the support of Northampton Borough Council, dedicated volunteers and a grant of 3.6 million pounds from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
Inside you will find 5 different ‘display zones’ which have been designed to be interactive and hands on, which appeals to all ages of visitors, especially those with young children. In these zones, you will learn about the history of the building, including its involvement in the Wars of the Roses, how women lived in Delapre Abbey and much more. Outside you can enjoy and take in the glorious grounds, which feature remains of a water garden as well as trails throughout – perfect for children to run and play or for a family picnic!
If packing your own refreshments isn’t your thing, Delapré Abbey also has a highly rated restaurant, which serves light bites to full meals, as well as coffee and other hot/cold drinks which you can take out to enjoy on the grounds. Additionally, they offer afternoon tea, which is a great way to enjoy the interiors of the Abbey, as well as spending time with family and friends.
Heart of the Shires Shopping Village
Placed around a Victorian farm courtyard, the Heart of the Shires Shopping Village is an outlet on the Northamptonshire border, which offers an array of independent shops, eateries and galleries. It is open seven days a week, and offers shoppers a relaxed shopping experience in the heart of the stunning countryside.
Retailers range from clothing stores, hairdressers, homeware, sweet shops, jewelers and many more – certainly enough for you to roam around for hours while enjoying the fresh air and scenic views. They also have their own restaurant and tea room called the 1867, which offers high quality, freshly prepared food throughout the day. Choose from an array of cakes, sandwiches and meals while enjoying your day out with family and friends in Northamptonshire.
78 Derngate Northampton
If you’re into history and architecture, 78 Derngate Northampton is a must visit! It’s the only house in England that was designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh that still has its original interior architecture. In 1976, Mackintosh transformed this Northampton home while keeping to his signature style: nature motifs, geometric forms and a hint of traditional Scottish architecture.
78 Derngate Northampton is now a public house where visitors can take a look around the house and learn about its history, as well as admiring Mackintosh’s work. They also have an on-site restaurant, light-filled art galleries and a modern shop for souvenirs.
